The B Nationals are Climbing New Zealand’s national championships for U11, U13 and U15. Two days of climbing in Auckland: bouldering on the Saturday at Northern Rocks, ropes on the Sunday at Birkenhead Pool & Leisure Centre.

Categories and disciplines
Athletes can enter both disciplines or just one. Age bands are for the 2026/27 season.

Competition format
There are no finals. Each day is a single round, and every athlete climbs the full set in their category.
Bouldering, Saturday 31 October
- Each category climbs its own session.
- Seven to nine boulder problems per category.
- We’re setting the problems in the style of the Australian Youth Nationals, so the weekend also works as preparation for international competition and for squad selection.
Lead and top-rope, Sunday 1 November
- U15 climb lead. U11 and U13 climb top-rope.
- Four climbs per athlete, six minutes on each.
- An aggregate score across the four climbs decides the national champion in each category.

- Sunday 1 November: top-rope and lead at Birkenhead Pool & Leisure Centre, 48 Mahara Avenue, Birkenhead.

Registration
Entries aren’t open yet. Registration runs through the CNZ website, the same way as the Boulder A Nationals, and we’ll publish the opening and closing dates as soon as they’re confirmed.
Every athlete needs a current CNZ membership to compete. That’s what carries the domestic licence required at a national championship, and you can sort it out now via Register an athlete rather than in the rush when entries open.
Squad selection
This is an official CNZ National Championship and a selection event. Results here feed into selection for the CNZ Development Squad, and New Zealand’s international teams are picked from that squad.
For U11, U13 and U15 climbers, this is the event those selections are based on.
