Climbing New Zealand (CNZ) is the national sporting organisation for sport climbing in Aotearoa New Zealand. We’re a volunteer-run organisation with one purpose: to grow the sport and support climbers — from beginners at local climbing walls to athletes competing on the world stage.
What we do
CNZ provides the governance, competitions, and development pathways that keep sport climbing running in New Zealand. We run the National Championship series across the three Olympic disciplines — lead, bouldering, and speed — plus para climbing. We select and support New Zealand representative teams for international competition. We work with our seven regional affiliated clubs to connect the wider climbing community.
As members of Sport New Zealand, the New Zealand Olympic Committee, and World Climbing (the international federation for sport climbing), CNZ represents Aotearoa on the world stage. Sport climbing made its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 and is confirmed for Los Angeles 2028.
Our aspiration
We want sport climbing to be accessible to every New Zealander — regardless of background, ability, or experience — and we want Kiwi climbers to be competitive at the top of the sport internationally. A strong grassroots is what produces world-class athletes.
