2023 2024 La Sportiva Youth and Masters Bouldering Championships

This is the stand alone championship event to crown male and female youth and masters champion boulderers for NZ 2023/24 Age categories: Youth D (U12), Youth C (U14), Youth B (U16), Youth A (U18), Junior (U20), Masters (35+)

Two Day Event for all Categories

The qualifying round runs entirely on Saturday - 6 problems, in 2 groups of 3 with a break between groups. 4 minutes to make unlimited number of attempts to top, 4 minutes rest between problems. NOTE: New format aligned to IFSC revised format for Youth. No isolation in qualifiers, athletes will be able to observe others climbing, seek and receive coaching between attempts. A forerunner video of the problems will be available. 

Change from 2022: There will be a designated climbing area for athletes and officials only. Coaches and spectators will need to remain outside of this area while the athletes are climbing. 

The finals run entirely on Sunday - top 6 climbers from qualification round, 4 problems, 4 minutes per problem, athletes get to observe the problems for 2 minutes per problem before being isolation through the finals rotations. (IFSC Format)

Entry fee options for this competition are $95* (Early Bird), $105* (regular fee).

*Fees included previously levied $30 athlete entry fee via clubs. Talk to your club about this if you need an explanation.

Registrations close midnight Thursday 12th of October 2023. Early Bird registration price ends midnight Thursday 5th of October 2023. No late registrations will be accepted, including on the day.

 

Competitors must be a member of an affiliated Climbing New Zealand club and have a Domestic Climbing license if they want to be eligible for New Zealand Team selection.

All competitors must complete the domestic license online form prior to the competition. 

CNZ Age Categories for CNZ events in the 2023/2024 season:

Masters – born during 1989 or earlier
Opens   –  born during 2008 or earlier (and must be at least 15 on the date of the event)
Juniors – born during 2005/2006
Youth A – born during 2007/2008
Youth B – born during 2009/2010
Youth C – born during 2011/2012
Youth D – born during 2013 (or later)

 


FORMAT

Qualifiers (all categories) SATURDAY 14th of October

6 problems are completed in total 
The climber completes 3 problems in zone 1 and 3 problems in zone 2 – there will be a short break between zones
4 minutes to make unlimited number of attempts to top, 
4 minutes rest between problems 
 
Advantages of this format:
One extra problem 
No isolation
Athletes will be able to observe others climbing, seek and receive coaching between attempts. 
A forerunner video of the problems will be available. 
 
Finals  Sunday 15th October:
6 finalists 
Isolation 
No coaching from coaches, parents and supporters 
4 problems – 4 minutes per problem
