Help us grow climbing in Aotearoa – Call for volunteers

Climbing in Aotearoa has plenty of opportunities ahead. We’ve got talented athletes, active clubs, and it’s time to dream big about what our sport can become.

CNZ has set out a 2026 Strategic Plan to invest in athlete development, grow our competition programme, and build the pathways that support climbers at every level. To make it happen, we need people from across the community to step in and help.

We’re refreshing all of our sub-committees and looking for new members (read more on the current committees):

  • Event management — plans, manages and oversees all CNZ national competitions. National events connect climbers across the country and grow the sport. This committee is at the centre of making that happen.
  • Development and coaching — drives coaching programmes, athlete pathways, and grassroots engagement through to high performance.
  • Selection — applies the selection policy to choose athletes for international teams.
  • Marketing and sponsorship — grows CNZ’s external presence and secures sponsorship. This directly funds the programmes, events and pathways that develop climbing in Aotearoa.
  • Finance and funding — a new committee focused on wider funding opportunities and long-term financial sustainability.
  • Policy and governance — drafts, reviews, and updates CNZ policies and oversees the Constitution.
  • Athlete administration — a coordination role for managing athletes at overseas competitions.

Whether you’ve got event experience, marketing contacts, financial know-how, governance skills, or the energy to pitch in, there’s a place for you.

The opportunities are in front of us. Let’s make the most of them together.
