The countdown is on, only a couple of weeks to go before Climbing debuts at the Olympics. While we have no New Zealand athlete competing this time around, we will all be watching the event with intense interest and follow the fortunes of our Oceania representatives, Tom O’Halloran and Oceania MacKenzie.
Climbing runs from Tuesday the 3rd of August to Friday the 6th of August.
This event is scheduled for 30th and 31st of August, organised by Climbing New Zealand and BOP Sport Climbing Association (BOPSCA) and hosted by Rocktopia, Mount Maunganui.
Ensure that you are getting yourselves organised with your registration and planning through your school.
Registrations close 14th of August and entries are limited to a total of 150 competitors.

We successfully ran our 2020 2021 National :Lead and Para-climbing Championships on the 13th and 14th of March.

Following the recent Speed Championships in Mount Maunganui and Lead and Para-climbing Championships in Rotorua, we are pleased to offer athletes places in the Climbing New Zealand Open Development Squad and Climbing New Zealand Youth Development Squad.
We have compiled the attached file which lists all development squad selections for the year. This includes the Youth and Open development squad selections from the earlier Bouldering Competitions.
Reminder of the criteria for Speed selection: Speed qualification criteria – Top 5 placing in each category, plus a time less than or equal to (time in seconds): Open Male 10.000 Open Female 13.000 Junior Male 11.000 Junior Female 14.000 Youth A Male 12.000 Youth A Female 15.000 Youth B Male 12.000 Youth B Female 15.000
Reminder of the criteria for Lead (and Bouldering) selections: Automatic selection of the top 25% Open and top 40% of Youth of eligible athletes invited to be a member of the 2020/21 NZ Development Squad. Discretionary selections can also be made, refer to the policy for details.
The Speed and Lead selections are still interim and subject to appeal.
