National Cup Update – placings and prizes

21 Jun

With registrations now open for the 3rd Round of this year’s National Cup Series, here’s how the teams are placed at the moment.

Out in front by 600-ish points are the Dynomites (4199).
Leading the charge to catch the Wellingtonians are Waikato (3637) and the Geckos (3487), with Rotorua (3110) and Auckland (2583) hot on their heels.
Cliffhangers (1058), Tuataras (648) and BOP Ascenders (328) are currently following in the slipstream.

It’s going to be a close finish so get registered everyone and climb hard in Auckland.

Go teams!

Individual congratulations also to Daniel Krippner and Sarah Hay – who picked up the CNZ Opens prizes in Wanaka. A reminder to all Opens climbers about this: the combined winners (Lead and Bouldering scores) from the two disciplines at Auckland will win free entry to the National Bouldering Champs in Wellington on Sep 3/4.

And don’t forget the generous prizes donated by our sponsors this year – Black Diamond and 5.10 – that will be up to be won by the overall winners of the series. Gosh there’s some good action going on this year on the New Zealand sportclimbing scene!

Well Done in Sydney!

21 Jun

Congratulations to everyone who made it over the ditch to the Oceania Lead and Speed Champs in Sydney this weekend. It was a fantastic event and a great start to a new life for Oceania Sportclimbing.

Thanks to all the people at Sportclimbing Australia for all their hard work and dedication, especially Romain and the Villawood team.

To our competitors and their families: Ryan and Kyle Langstone (both making finals of YD and YC) Jasmine Weaver, Ariana van Lith, Sophia Osipova, Matthew Jones (making finals of YB) and Oliver Soar. Well done to all!

Big shout out to Ian and Pete for a full on week of route setting – some pretty late nights in there for these guys – working with the Aussie and New Caledonian routesetters to produce awesome routes for all the climbers. Cheers!
