2017 Nationals kicking off in Hamilton April 1st
Just over a month to go to the first National Cup Lead and Bouldering event for 2017 to be held at Hamilton Extreme Edge.
Registrations are now open for this event via the National Competitions tab.
It’s going to be an exciting year of climbing competitions ahead of us so train hard and looking forward to seeing you all in action on the walls.

Wellington Regional Climbing Comp
Keen for one more comp before the end of the year?
Registration has opened for the Wellington regional climbing competition to be held on Sunday 4th December at Hangdog in Lower Hutt.

Early bird entry is only $20 if you register before 1 December – after that it’s the standard rate of $30.
There are five categories: 
- ‘Beginner’ – max age 14, no minimum age, male and female categories, top rope only. 
- ‘Youth Intermediate’ – max age 18, male and female, top rope only, grade 21 and below. 
- ‘Youth Advanced’ – max age 18, male and female, lead climbers only, grade 20 and above. 
- ‘Open’ – 16 and over, male and female, lead climbers only, grade 22 and above. 
- ‘Masters’ – 35 and over, top rope only.
There will be spot prizes, food stall, and great climbing on the day.
NZ Youth Team Assistant Coach 2017
Climbing New Zealand is seeking applications from people interested in the position of NZ Youth Team (NZYT) Assistant Coach for the 2017 NZYT who will compete at IFSC Youth World Championships in Innsbruck (Aug 30 – Sept 10) and at the Oceania Championships in Noumea later in October (date TBC).
Please note there is no remuneration attached to this position, however travel and accommodation expenses associated with training camps will be paid by CNZ and those associated with competitions will be covered by the team.
The parents or guardians or any person who has a direct family relationship with any qualified athlete shall not be eligible for this position.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The NZYT Assistant Coach will provide support and assistance predominately to the NZYT Head Coach and also support and assist the NZYT Manager as required.
The Assistant Coach should:
- Be available to travel with the team officials and athletes during the specified time outlined by CNZ and other team officials
- Be familiar with the IFSC code, rules and regulations for competitions
- Provide coaching assistance to the head coach as required
- Help monitor progress of the athletes leading up to competitions when possible
- Attend all CNZ National competitions and training sessions when possible
- Ensure nutritional guidelines and fitness for the athletes are maintained
- Represent New Zealand and CNZ in a positive and professional manner
Ideally the NZYT Assistant Coach is someone who:
- Can communicate effectively
- Is positive and enthusiastic
- Is well organised
- Has previous youth coaching experience

Fantastic Climbing!
NZ Bouldering champs at Hangdog just over – and what a fantastic event it was! Big shout out to all who made it happen – Brook, Frank, Jacob, and the crew at the Dog, Ian, Pete and Emma for the best bouldering problems to date, the dynamic Dynomites organising committee and – of course – the amazing climbers and their indefatigable supporters.
