Rotorua comp info for competitors
Hi competitor,
Only a few days until the competition kicks off in Rotorua, it’s looking like it’s going to be an awesome event!
Just a few reminders:
1. If you competed in Round 1 or 2 in Hamilton or Wanaka, please do not forget to bring the competitor number you were issued with. A $10 replacement fee will be charged. New competitors will be issued with theirs prior to competing in Rotorua.
2. If you were the recipient of a trophy during the 2013 Competition series please return your trophy at this event.
3. Please make sure that you know who your Team Manager is. Your Team Manager is your first point-of-contact should any issues arise at the competition.
4. The viewing upstairs in the backpackers is STRICTLY for backpacker guests only. Please respect that this is a private business.
5. Please also respect The Wall and Basement by not bringing takeaways into the premises. Food brought from home is welcome, and there will be food available onsite.
6. Please be aware that the event timetable is subject to slight timing changes throughout the weekend due to competitor numbers. Please always refer to the timetable located at the event prior to leaving the competition venue.

2014 Mountain Skills for Youth (6th-7th October)
This course is an initiative of the New Zealand Alpine Club to encourage young people into the mountains and inspire them to become alpinists. It will be run by qualified New Zealand Mountain Guides Association Guides and New Zealand Outdoor Instructor Association Level 2 Instructors. The ratio of instructor to student will be 1:4.
Students must be between 16 years and 18 years on October 1st 2014
Accommodation is the NZAC Lodge at Arthurs Pass. There will be separate bunk rooms for boys and girls. They will need to bring their own sleeping bag and pillow (optional) and teddy bear (also optional). The Lodge will be booked out solely for the course for this weekend.
The fee is $450, which includes instruction, transport, food and accommodation, avalanche safety equipment hire and a year’s membership to the New Zealand Alpine Club.
Not included in the fee is: basic climbing equipment, suitable clothing, snacks (chocolate, lollies, scroggin etc). Some gear is available to hire through the Canterbury/Westland section.
Meals: all food will be provided but students will be expected to help their Guides/instructors with the cooking and do the dishes afterwards! Ditto,cleaning the Lodge at the end of the course.
