2022 2023 La Sportiva Youth and Masters Bouldering Championships

This is the stand alone championship event to crown male and female youth and masters champion boulderers for NZ 2022/23 Age categories: Youth D (U12), Youth C (U14), Youth B (U16), Youth A (U18), Junior (U20), Masters (35+)

Two Day Event for all Categories

The qualifying round runs entirely on Saturday - 6 problems, in 2 groups of 3 with a break between groups. 4 minutes to make unlimited number of attempts to top, 4 minutes rest between problems. NOTE: New format aligned to IFSC revied format for Youth. No isolation, athletes will be able to observe others climbing, seek and receive coaching between attempts. A forerunner video of the problems will be available. 

The finals run entirely on Sunday - top 6 climbers from qualification round, 4 problems, 4 minutes per problem

Entry fee options for this competition are $55 (Early Bird one category), $65 (regular fee)

Registrations close midnight Thursday 1st of December 2022. Early Bird registration price ends midnight Thursday 24th of November 2022. Late registrations and those taken on competition day will incur an additional $20 late fee.


Competitors must be a member of an affiliated Climbing New Zealand club and have a Domestic Climbing license if they want to be eligible for New Zealand Team selection.

All competitors must complete the domestic license form prior to the competition. Forms are available on the Climbing New Zealand website, or will be available on the day.

Completed forms are to be provided to clubs or provided on the day to officials.

CNZ Age Categories for CNZ events in the 2022/2023 season:

Masters – born during 1988 or earlier
Opens   –  born during 2007 or earlier (and must be at least 15 on the date of the event)
Juniors – born during 2004/2005
Youth A – born during 2006/2007
Youth B – born during 2008/2009
Youth C – born during 2010/2011
Youth D – born during 2012 (or later)



Qualifiers (all categories) SATURDAY 3rd December

6 problems are completed in total 
The climber completes 3 problems in zone 1 and 3 problems in zone 2 – there will be a short break between zones
4 minutes to make unlimited number of attempts to top, 
4 minutes rest between problems 
Advantages of this format:
One extra problem 
No isolation
Athletes will be able to observe others climbing, seek and receive coaching between attempts. 
A forerunner video of the problems will be available. 
Finals (same as previous years)  Sunday 4 December:
6 finalists 
No coaching from coaches, parents and supporters 
4 problems – 4 minutes per problem
