2023 2024 La Sportiva National Open Lead Championships

Climbing New Zealand sanctioned event to determine NZ Open Lead climbing champions for 2023 / 2024. The event will also double as a Selection Event for Junior, Youth A and Youth B athletes.

 

Come compete at the 2023/2024 La Sportiva National Open Lead Championships!
 
Climbing NZ is excited to invite all Open climbers to join the competition at The Wall and Basement Cinema, Rotorua.
 
Opens –  born during 2008 or earlier. All climbers who qualify in the Youth A and Junior age groups are eligible to compete in the Open category.
 
This is a one day event, with each athlete competing 2 qualifying climbs, with the top 8 athletes proceeding to a one climb final. The final will be an sight format with isolation.  For both qualifications and finals each climber will have 6 minutes to complete their climb.
 
Additional Selection Event
 
For Youth A and Juniors they must compete in the Open event and their rankings in that event will earn selection points for Youth World Championship selection.
For Youth B athletes, there will be a 2 climb selection event using qualification only format, register for Youth B here also.
Note: You need to be a member of the Development Squad in Youth B in either Lead or Bouldering to compete in this selection event. You do not need to commit to being selected to a New Zealand Team to compete.
 
Athletes in Juniors, Youth A or Youth B who are seeking selection to the World Youth Championships in 2024 MUST compete at this event. Juniors and Youth A competing in the Open event will also be ranked within their own category to award selection ranking points.
 
EVENT DETAILS

This event determines champions and placings for 2023/24 Lead climbing and Para-climbing in New Zealand for the Open Age Grades and is sanctioned by Climbing New Zealand and run according to International Federation of Sport Climbing rules: https://www.ifsc-climbing.org/index.php/world-competition/event-regulation 

There will be two qualifying climbs followed by a final. Top 8 from the qualifiers go through to the final.

Registrations close midnight Thursday the 21st of March 2024. Early Bird registration price ends midnight Thursday the 14th March 2024. Late registrations and those taken on competition day will incur an additional $20 late fee.


CNZ Age Categories for CNZ events in the 2023/2024 season:
Masters – born during 1989 or earlier
Opens and Para   –  born during 2008 or earlier (and must be at least 15 on the date of the event)
Juniors – born during 2005/2006
Youth A – born during 2007/2008
Youth B – born during 2009/2010
Youth C – born during 2011/2012
Youth D – born during 2013 (or later)

The event is held on one day according to the following approximate schedule.
