Climbing New Zealand has established a selection policy for the Speed discipline. This policy applies to the IFSC official climbing wall so policy is limited to Open, Junior, Youth A and Youth B categories.
This qualification criteria applies to the 2021 Speed National Championships, scheduled for the 12th of March 2021.
For the sake of clarity there is no speed qualification for Youth C and Youth D as they climb on the Pacific K route and this has no international relevance at this stage.
Speed qualification criteria – Top 5 placing in each category, plus a time less than or equal to (time in seconds): Open Male 10.000 Open Female 13.000 Junior Male 11.000 Junior Female 14.000 Youth A Male 12.000 Youth A Female 15.000 Youth B Male 12.000 Youth B Female 15.000

We will be running the National Speed Championships on Friday the 12th of March 2021, at Blake Park, Mount Maunganui.
The event will crown our National Champions, and is a chance for National Speed records to fall.
We are currently work on the criteria for National selection from this event, and we will publish and share the criteria once it has been confirmed.
Athletes who are considering Speed as part of any international competition in 2021 will be expected to attend this event. This includes competing in Speed at World Cups, Youth World Championships and Oceania events.
Youth B and above (including Masters) compete on the International standard speed wall (i.e. same as Olympics and World Cups)
Youth C and Youth D compete on the Pacific K route, this is the route recognised for our National records.

Oceania Olympic Qualification Event
This event is to proceed in Sydney, Australia from on the 19th and 20th of December 2020. With the current border guidelines and restrictions (government advice not to travel, cost and uncertainty of travel, quarantine limits, cost of quarantine, 2 weeks quarantine on return to New Zealand), most of our athletes have not been able to attend. We will have 2 athletes competing, Chase Gatland and Cirrus Tan. Chase lives in Sydney and Cirrus has made the commitment to travel from New Zealand to compete. We all wish them well. We will advise on live viewing options when we know more.
